This is an old article, but one i love to share with people, as a licensed contractor, my worst days are when I have to meet someone who has been decieved by an unlicensed contractor.

Make sure u hire a licensed contractor and go online and look up all the home improvments that need a permit. And when the contractor shows up ask him if he is pulling a permit if he says no he is probably not licensed.
