  • HVAC Tips

    • My AC Suddenly Stopped Working, What Should I Do?

Make sure the thermostat is set correctly, check the circuit breaker, and make sure your AC filter isn’t clogged before you call for service, especially if it’s after hours.

    • What Temperature Should I Keep My Thermostat at When I’m Not Home?

The rule of thumb is 2 to 3 degrees above what you keep it at when you are home.

    • My Dog Sheds a Lot, Is There Anything Special I Need to Do to Take Care of AC System?

Inspect your filter at least once a month. If you have a disposable filter, replace it often. If you have a washable filter, wash it at least once a month, and don’t ever run the AC without an air filter.

Dog hair will clog the air filter which leads back to the air handler. If the filter gets clogged, the airflow will be restricted, and your unit will have to work harder to keep you cool so not only will your dog keep you warm, but your AC will too.

    • I Have a Newborn Baby, Should I Do Anything Different With My Air Conditioner?

We recommend you change your AC filter every month so there are fewer dust particles in the air for your baby's developing lungs and make sure your AC ducts are clean.

    • How Do I Make My Air Conditioner More Energy Efficient?

Make sure that all air vents are open and unrestricted, get a programmable thermostat, have your system inspected regularly, and change the air filter every month.

    • Should I Install a Programmable Thermostat?

A programmable thermostat can cut your cooling costs by as much as 25%.

    • Should the Thermostat Fan Be Set to “Auto” or “On”?

Setting the fan to “auto” will help keep your cooling costs down, because it will only run when it needs to in order to maintain the desired temperature.

    • How Do I Know When It’s Time to Replace My AC System?

If your AC is more than 10 years old, if it’s not cooling like it used to or, if your electric bill seems higher than it should be, it’s probably time to start looking.

A new AC system can be up to 60% more energy efficient so your old AC could be costing you more than it is worth.

  • Maintenance

    • What Is the Difference Between an AC Maintenance Visit and a Service Call?

Regularly scheduled maintenance is a preventive measure designed to extend the life of your unit and avoid expensive problems down the road. Service is what you call for when your AC stops working or stops working properly.

In addition to extending the life of your unit, addressing small issues before they become big problems keeps your unit running more efficiently so it costs less to cool your home or office.

If during the course of a regularly scheduled maintenance visit, our technician identifies a problem that requires research or service beyond what is considered regular maintenance, a service call will be immediately scheduled.

    • How Often Do I Need Maintenance if My AC Is Working Fine?

If the unit is under warranty, once a year, in the spring before it gets hot, is good enough. It’s also a warranty requirement. If the unit is older, twice a year, in the spring and fall, is recommended.

Regular maintenance can cut your cooling costs by as much as 15% and it will extend the life of your system. A properly serviced AC will also do a better job of dehumidifying your home.

    • How Often Do I Need to Change My AC Filter?

Regardless of the manufacturer’s recommendation, filters should be changed every month in South Florida, especially if you have large pets, allergies, or smoke.

When in doubt, change it. The cleaner the air filter, the better it is for your health and the lifespan of your unit.
